Description	:	Charles Dewey Jenkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Jenkins, was born on a farm in Republic County, Kans., near Chester, Nebr., on Jan. 9, 1899. He departed from this life Jan. 26, 1971 at the Kaiser Hospital, Portland, Ore., at the age of 72 years and 16 days. He grew to manhood in the Chester community where he received his education and later farmed for a number of years. After his farm sale he drove for different transport truck lines. In 1943 he moved to Portland, Ore., working for the Esco Foundry Co., where he received his 25-year award. He was married to Mrs. Vera Stroud, formerly of Belleville, on April 14, 1955. They then moved to their present home at Sherwood, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Francis. Survivors are his wife, Vera, and her two children, Neva Lee McMallow, husband and family of Wichita, Ks., and Robert Stroud, wife and family of Hawaii; five sisters, Bertie Randels of Ft. Morgan, Colo., Lizzie Bentz of Fairbury, Mabel Bise of Superior, Alice George of Belleville, and Carrie Dettman of Narka, Ks.; one brother, Roy of Belleville; one sister-in-law, Gladys Jenkins of Chester, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Memorial services were held on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 30, at the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Memorial Chapel in Belleville, the Rev. John Frint officiating. Mrs. Elmer Lauritzen and Diane Mitchem sang, accomnpanied by Mrs. Raymond Isaacson. The casket bearers were Fred Thompson, Cecil Allen, Arthur Ferguson, Ival Stutzman, Cleat Stroud, Paul Washburn. Burial was in the Chester Cemetery.
