He passed away July 15, 1964, at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 17 days. OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, July 28 1964 Charles Edward McDonald, son of Frank and Ellen McDonald, was born at Malvern, Iowa, on Feb. 28, 1887. He passed away July 15, 1964, at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 17 days. He was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Duckworth on Oct. 4, 1908, and to this union were born nine children. He was preceded in death by two daughters and one son; Cleta Mae in 1910 at the age of 14 months; Kenneth Marvin in 1916 at the age of six weeks; Iva Marie in 1932 at the age of 21 years; also, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Sarah and due to her invalid condition was unable to attend his service. He is also survived by six children: Howard of Ottumwa; Mrs. Mildred Parsons of Chariton; Mrs. Merle (Opal) Deming of Jacksonville, Fla.; Mrs. Willard (Ethel) Deming, Chariton; Mrs. Ernest (Thelma) Johnson, Chariton; and Richard of Russell; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters; Olive Riggs, Chariton; Anna Baylor, Bloomington, Ill.; three brothers, Tom of Williamson; Francis, Chariton; and Alfred, Kokomo, Ind., and other relatives and a host of friends. He selected his minister, the Rev. Homer L. Max, his pallbearers and made other arrangements before his departure. He was conscious, almost, to the last and knew his children, who were all with him in his last days. He was a loving father and grandfather. His joys were found in his family. He will be missed by all who loved him. He will also be sadly missed from the membership of this church and as a neighbor in the community where he has spent so many years. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. July 18, 1964, at the Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Homer Max officiated at the service. Interment was in the Coal Glen cemetery.
