OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, August 14, 1986 DEMING Opal Bernice Deming, was born on Sept. 1, 1918 to Charles and Sarah McDonald in Lucas County. She passed away at the Lucas County Health Center after a long illness on July 29, 1986 at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 33 days. She attended school in Lucas County. Opal was united in marriage to Merle Deming, July 2, 1939. This marriage was blessed with one son, Larry M. Deming. In 1946 they moved to Illinois and later to Jacksonville, Fla., where she owned and managed a day-care nursery for 35 years. She retired in 1982 and moved to Chariton to live her final years, close to her family. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, Fla. She leaves to mourn, her son, Larry and wife Lou of Tularosa, N.M., five grandchildren; Larry and Randy Wolfe of Tallahassee, Fla.; Mary Beth and Matthew Edwards of Maurepas, La.; and Todd Koegler of Alamagordo, N.M.; one brother, Richard McDonald of Russell; one sister, Thelma Johnson of Chariton and several nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, 1986, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Ryon officiating. Bearers were Kurt Quade, Darl Hixson, Chris Deming, Scott McDonald, Glen Schweitzer and Matthew Edwards. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or to the American Heart Association.
