Charles E. Pearson, 78, retired farmer, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa where he had been a patient for the past week. Last rites will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Orville Johnston. Burial will be in Fell cemetery. The body will be taken from the Pedrick funeral home in Douds to the family home tonight. Pearson was born on a farm three and a half miles miles southwest of Libertyville Aug. 9, 1876, and spent entire life as a farmer in that area. He was the son of Silas M. and Parlee Carter Pearson. He was married to Pearl McClain Oct. 14, 1904. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary this fall. Surviving are wife and the following children: Glenn and Rodney, Libertyville; Mrs. Grace Frazier, Corydon; Mrs. Nellie Davisson, Libertyville; Beulah Pearson, Knoxville; Mrs. Gladys Bachmann, Milton; Mrs. Florence Horn, Pulaski, and Mrs. Kathryn Parks (sic. Katharyn Parks), Fairfield. One brother, Rayburn Pearson, Batavia; 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by one infant son. Pearson was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. The PEARSONs have been residents of America since the early Colonial days. The great-great-grandfather of Silas PEARSON was Enoch PEARSON, a Quaker preacher of New London, England, emigrated to this country with William Penn, settling in Philadelphia. He had a son Samuel PEARSON, who was born in 1724 and died Jan. 8, 1790, who in turn was the father of Samuel PEARSON, grandfather of our subject. Samuel was born in Frederick Co., Virginia, on the 3d of Nov., 1767, died in Miami Co., Ohio, Nov. 3, 1847; married 2d Sept. 1790 in South Carolina Miss Mary COATS, daughter of John and Rachael (WRIGHT) COATS. Their son Sampson PEARSON was born in Ohio, 29 Dec. 1810. He removed to Indiana in 1836 and from there to Iowa in 1853, but later went to Missouri and died there Jan. 5, 1888. In Ohio, in Aug., 1832, he married Miss Nancy McCLURE, born 29 Dec. 1811, daughter of John & Abigail (BUFFINGTON) McCLURE. Their son, Silas PEARSON, was born in Indiana Feb. 10, 1840, and was 13 years of age when he accompanied his parents to Iowa... settling on a farm in Sec. 36, Des Moines Township, Jefferson County. In Feb., 1866, he was married to Miss Parlee CARTER....."
