Description	:	Charles Edward Senff was born 3 Jan 1872 in Steam Corner,Fountain Co., IN, to William B. and Eliza A.(Schlichter) Senff, the 7th of 8 children, only 3 of whom lived to rear a family. Both parents died and are buried in Motley, MN. Charles moved to North Dakota at a young age and worked on farms. Both parents died and are buried in Motley, MN. Charles moved to North Dakota at a young age and worked on farms. He married Lydia Emma Brase on 12 Oct 1898 at the Grand Prairie Methodist Church in Barnes Co., ND. Their first child, a girl named Vera, died at birth. Charles and Lydia homesteaded near Marshall in Dunn Co. in western North Dakota where they lived for 11 years until many years of drought caused them to lose their farm. Charles was the Post Master at the Sennef PO, which was on his farm near Marshall, and also served on the School Board for 11 years. They lived in Mountain Home, Idaho in 1906, and lived for 6 mos. in Cuba. They lived on a farm owned by George Rasmussen in Hebron, ND, where 2 of their sons were born. their 3 youngest children were born on the homestead in Marshall, near the Little Knife River. The three eldest children had been born in Oriska, ND. In 1925 the family moved to Gardner, ND while Charles did Blacksmithing. Then they moved to Barnes Co., just NW of Dazey in Laketown Twp. where they farmed and stayed until they retired, when they moved back to where they had started their marriage in Valley City. Charles died 8 Jul 1937 in Valley City. He had received his first SS check 3 days before he died, was too weak to sign it, and it had to be returned to the government. Charles was survived by his wife, Lydia; children, Marion (Nina) Senff of Georgetown, MN, Sherman (Marie) Senff of Fargo, ND, Emma (Joe) Maruska of Courtenay, ND, Harold (Sarah) Senff of Rogers, ND, Leon (Annetta) Senff of Dazey, ND, Hazel (Carl) Mohr of Dazey, ND, Vera (Orville) Davis of Dazey, ND, and Raymond Louis Senff of Dazey. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Mavill, William, and Solomon Senff, also sisters: Sarah, Clara, Lilly Senff and Elmira Greenup; infant daughter Vera. Charles and Lydia had 19 grandchildren, 11 of them born before he died. Charles widow, Lydia Emma Brase Senff died 25 Jan 1942 in Valley City, ND, they are buried in Hillside Cemetery in Valley City, ND. Lydia grieved for Charles til the day she died.
