Description	:	Lydia Emma Brase-Senff was born 25 April 1880 in Hay Creek, Goodhue Co., MN to Heinrich (Henry) & Mary Louise (Santelman) Brase. The family moved to Norman County MN to homestead, and later to Cass County, North Dakota and lived in or near Fargo, and Valley City. Lydia was the eldest of 11 children. She married Charles Edward Senff on 12 Oct 1898 at the Methodist Church in Grand Prairie Twp, Barnes Co., North Dakota. Read More	Lydia Emma Brase-Senff was born 25 April 1880 in Hay Creek, Goodhue Co., MN to Heinrich (Henry) & Mary Louise (Santelman) Brase. The family moved to Norman County MN to homestead, and later to Cass County, North Dakota and lived in or near Fargo, and Valley City. Lydia was the eldest of 11 children. She married Charles Edward Senff on 12 Oct 1898 at the Methodist Church in Grand Prairie Twp, Barnes Co., North Dakota. Lydia and Charles lived and worked farms from one end of North Dakota to the other, and also lived in Mountain Home, Idaho at one time, and the island of Cuba for 6 mos. They homesteaded land in western ND in Marshall, Dunn Co. They did well until 7 years of drought caused the crops to fail and they lost their farm. They moved back to Barnes Co. where they spent the remainder of their days. Charles died 8 Jul 1937. Lydia grieved the loss of her husband until 25 Jan 1942, when she joined him in death. They are buried together at Hillside Cemetery in Valley City, ND, where they started their married life. Charles and Lydia were both of full-blooded Germanic ancestry. Surviving Lydia are sons, Marion (Nina) Senff of Georgetown, MN, Sherman (Marie) Senff of Portland, Oregon, Harold (Sarah) Senff of Portland, Leon (Annetta) Senff of Portland, & Raymond 'Jack' (Helen) Senff, also of Portland; daughters Emma (Joe)Maruska of Courtenay, ND, Hazel (Carl) Mohr of Dazey, ND, and Vera (Orville) Davis of Dazey, ND. She had 19 grandchildren. Also surviving were siblings: Louise (Jacob) Marshall of Minot, ND, Laura (Max) Smith of Argusville, ND, Clara (Harvey) Carroll of Hettinger, ND, Emma (William)McDonald of Fargo, ND, Leon (Emma) Brase of Olympia, WA, Esther (Harry) Toohey of Fargo, ND, Ida (Ibey) Barnes of Fargo, Della L. Brase of Fargo, and Earl (Margaret) Brase of Fargo, ND. Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Charles, an infant dau. Vera, a sister Lillian Brase. Lydia spoke 6 dialects of German, including high German, low German, Russian German, and Schwabish.
