Description	:	TOUS, CHARLES FRANK—Charles Frank Tous was born October 19, 1892, in Cordova, Neb., the son of emigrant Czechoslovakian parents; John J. Tous and Marie Kozak Tous. He graduated from Exeter high school in 1911 and immediately accepted a position in the Exeter State Bank. Read More	TOUS, CHARLES FRANK—Charles Frank Tous was born October 19, 1892, in Cordova, Neb., the son of emigrant Czechoslovakian parents; John J. Tous and Marie Kozak Tous. He graduated from Exeter high school in 1911 and immediately accepted a position in the Exeter State Bank. After six years of banking experience, Charles enlisted in the Army in June, 1917, and spent 19 months in the service during World War I, reaching the rank of first lieutenant. After his service; he took time to homestead, living in a sod house which he had built on 480 acres of land in Garden county near Lisco, Neb., which he drew in a lottery set up by the U.S. Government for service men, and then returning to the Exeter State Bank. On July 23, 1926, he was united in marriage with Venda Putlitz of Fairmont. To this union was born one daughter, Mary Frances Tous. The family moved to Fairmont in 1930, where Charles became assistant cashier of the Farmers State Bank. He became cashier in 1933 and was 66 years in the banking business, remaining active until his death. He received a 50-year award from the Nebraska bankers Association. Charles was a 50-year member of Lt. Earl Forbes American Legion Post No. 21, and served as its finance officer for 44 years. He was honored with a plaque and life membership upon his retirement from this office. He was a 50-year member of Fairmont Masonic Lodge No. 48, also serving as its treasurer for many years. Charles took an active part in the community life of Fairmont through the years, having served on both the city council and the school board. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and received a plaque from the Fairmont Jaycees for having been in business more than 50 years. He loved outdoor life, fishing, hunting, and sports being his hobbies. Charles passed away Saturday afternoon, July 16, 1977, at Fillmore County hospital, Geneva. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Venda; daughter, Mary Frances; sister, Mrs. Marie Sconce of Norfolk, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his relatives he leaves to mourn him a host of friends and neighbors who remember him as a loving, faithful friend. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community church at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, with Rev. Jay Vetter officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Roland R. Hall sang “Abide With Me” and “The Lord’s Prayer” accompanied by Nancy Jo Galusha. Pallbearers were Sherman Ashby, Alfred Jorgensen, Robert Bettger, Kenneth Moore, Thomas Boyer and Francis Rose. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Charles Ashby, Melvin Ralston, William Boren, Carl Schneider, J. J. Klima, Frank Tice, Elmer McCabe, Hugh Wilkins, William W. Wilkins and Grady Corbitt. Military services were conducted and interment was in Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 21 July 1977, page 1.
