Putlitz Tous on Feb. 11, 1929, at Omaha. She passed away Nov. 27, 2003, at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont at the age of 74 years, nine months and 16 days. She was the only child in the family. Mary’s first 18 years were spent in Fairmont, where she attended Fairmont Public Schools. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1946, as valedictorian of her class. Following graduation, she enrolled in the University of Nebraska where she graduated in 1950 with a Bachelors of Arts in business. She participated in the Cornhusker Marching Band from 1946 until 1950, and was one of only six girls in the band. In 1949, she received a Regents Scholarship, and continued on with her education by obtaining a Master of Finance Degree. She took employment as a secretary at First Trust in Lincoln and later was employed in the finance department for Banker’s Life in Lincoln. She then became personnel director for First Mid America and later was employed in the Stock Transfer Department at National Bank of Commerce. At the time of her retirement, she was Investor Relations Manager with the Lincoln Telephone Company. She retired on March 18, 1994, and made her home in Fairmont. Throughout her life, she maintained an interest in music and wildlife. Her favorite pastime was traveling and she did so extensively. Mary was a member of the Fairmont Community Church, Professional Secretaries International, PEO, Alumni Association, State Historical Society and a former member of the Frank H. Woods Telephone Pioneer Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles F. and Venda E. Tous of Fairmont. Cousins and many life-long friends survive her. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 2, with Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Msgr. James Dawson was a guest speaker. Musical selections were “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”. Casket bearers were Robert Bettger Sr., Thomas Boyer, Jerry Gangstad, Bobby L. Hoeft Jr., David Seggerman and Don West.
