Description	:	Charles Fremont, son of John and Caroline Webb Hoaglin, was born July 17, 1861 at Salina, Iowa and departed this life March 9, 1945 at 7:20 am at his home in Hillsboro, aged 83 years, 7 mos. and 20 days. He was united in marriage to Melissa Boley October 27, 1885 and to this union was born eight children, Harry, Clyde, Frank, Mark, Joe, William, C. F. Jr. and only daughter Eva. These with his grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends are left to mourn is passing. His pride was in his family, his home and his business.... He was united in marriage to Melissa Boley October 27, 1885 and to this union was born eight children, Harry, Clyde, Frank, Mark, Joe, William, C. F. Jr. and only daughter Eva. These with his grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends are left to mourn is passing. His pride was in his family, his home and his business. Soon after his marriage he and his wife established their home in Hillsboro. Sixty years ago in February he entered his brother's store at Hillsboro as clerk, running a huckster wagon for him. The brother left for Bonaparte wanting C. F. to go with him, but he remained in Hillsboro, the brother helping him to buy a team of horses. He sold the horses and started his own store in 1886. This store was torn down and another larger one built which burned in 1897. He rebuilt and in 1912 added a 60-foot building, the present place of business. He is said to have been the first to bring plate glass, also bananas to Hillsboro. His family is all living in or around Hillsboro with the exception of his son, William, and grandson, Eldredge of Mt. Pleasant. One grandson, John Richard, was killed in France Nov. 9, 1944, and another grandson, Edwin H. is stationed at Ellington Field, Texas. Private funeral services were held at the late home on Sunday at 1:30 pm and at the Hillsboro Baptist church at 2:15 conducted by Rev. Otto Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, assisted by Rev. E. E. Niederhuth of Hillsboro, with burial in Hillsboro Cemetery.
