Fish, who is spending the winter in California for his health, state that he is not improving, but on the contrary getting worse. A Devoted Husband and Father, Veteran Soldier, and Highly Respected Citizen Laid to Rest at Riverside Cemetery Charles Fish was born at Toronto, Canada, June 6, 1848. His father and mother first moved to Detroit, Mich., and afterwards to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Here his father became a confirmed invalid, and Charles, then 12 years of age, used to walk 25 miles to town and carry articles to sell to buy medicine for his invalid father. His mother says he was a loving and devoted child and never complained of his hard lot. His father died when he was 12 years old, leaving Charles the main dependence of his mother and other children. Nobly the little fellow met and discharged the responsibility. At 15 he enlisted as a drummer boy in the 38th Wisconsin Infantry, and served until honorably discharged two years later in 1865. He as in many notable engagements--among others the seige of Petersburg. He was married at Avoca, Wisconsin, Dec. 28, 1870, to Miss Lucy E. Lincoln, daughter of W.L. Lincoln, and came to Montana in 1878, as clerk for Maj. Lincoln at Fort Belknap agency. He shortly afterwards purchased a farm on Highwood, where he started a herd of cattle; afterwards moving there and giving his personal attention to the business. His mother, who had married a second time and was again a widow, came with her children to Highwood and settled near him. When he passed peacefully away there were around his deathbed his mother, Mrs. Mary Riffenberg; his wife, three sons and one daughter; his sister, Mrs. W.M. Stevenson, Sauk Centre, Minn.; his brother, Richard Fish, and half-brother, C.H. Riffenberg; his brother-in-law, A.H. Reser of Chinook, and his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Lincoln. The heartfelt sympathies of our people go out to his widow and orphaned children and relatives in their bereavement.
