Description	:	Charles H. Cornish (Charlie), passed away on the 29th of December, at age 95, at Marine Court, Bremerton, Wash. Charlie was oldest son of eight children of Howard and Mabel Cornish, born at the family home in Hamilton, Mont. on April 4, 1919. He loved the Bitterroot Valley, especially the fly fishing. Charlie was oldest son of eight children of Howard and Mabel Cornish, born at the family home in Hamilton, Mont. on April 4, 1919. He loved the Bitterroot Valley, especially the fly fishing. When Charlie was 15, his father passed away and as such he had to take on more family responsibility, working at a variety of jobs from bakery truck driver to lab tech to help support his family. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1937. In April 1942, he enlisted in the Navy, serving throughout the Pacific including the invasions of Guam and Okinawa. After his discharge, he met the love of his life, Mariana Stilson, to whom he remained married for over 67 years. Following the war, he found employment as an auto mechanic, working at a number of car dealerships, until he became employed at Bangor Naval Base where he worked for over 20 years. Upon his retirement in the 1970s, he and Mariana moved to Sequim. They enjoyed retirement, traveling across the U.S. and Mexico by motor home, salmon fishing, and creating wood crafts and pens in his shop. Charlie was gifted with a mechanical mind and an inventor's soul. He could make or fix almost anything. In 2010, he and Mariana returned to Bremerton, and most recently he lived at Marine Court. Charlie was a loving caring individual who knew no enemies. He just liked people and loved to tell stories about his fly fishing and hiking days in the Montana. He was loved by many and will be missed. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vivian and Louella; and brothers, John, Bob, Jim, and Howard. He is survived by his wife, Mariana; sister, Stella Kratofil of Spokane, Wash.; son, Philip (Beth) Cornish of Bremerton; daughter, Mary Cornish-Hicks (Mark) of Warrenton, Va.; foster daughters, Leanne Steele and Helen LaCelle; along with five grandchildren, Mark Cornish, Brian (Cindy) Cornish, Brenda (Michael) Roberts, Jason Johnson, Jennifer Hubbell; and four great-grandchildren, Alex and Dylan Hubbell, and Nathan and James Roberts, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 22 at Bay Pointe Retirement, 966 Oyster Bay Court, Bremerton. Memorials in Charlie's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and mailed to Bay Pointe, 966 Oyster Bay Court, Bremerton, WA 98312 or a charity of your choice.
