Description	:	Charles was one of the middle children of Phineas Hunt and his wife, Dolly Babb Hunt. He was born in Portsmouth, NH, but when he was about 9 or 10, his father apparently died, as his mother moved her family back to her hometown of Westbrook, Maine. His training on ships stood him in good stead with this company, as he first... Read More	Charles was one of the middle children of Phineas Hunt and his wife, Dolly Babb Hunt. He was born in Portsmouth, NH, but when he was about 9 or 10, his father apparently died, as his mother moved her family back to her hometown of Westbrook, Maine. When he was in his teens, Charles went to sea and saw quite a bit of the world, before settling down in Westbrook, Maine. Charles went to work, age 21, at the S. D. Warren Paper Mill. His training on ships stood him in good stead with this company, as he first worked as a derricks man constructing the first brick mill for that company, known as the Presumpscot Mill. He and his older brother, George, started the first fires under the new boilers. During 1872 and 1873, he worked in Boston as an engineer for the Norway Iron Works. Eventually he returned to Westbrook, Maine, where he set up the first stone crusher in that town. Then he once again went to work for the S.D. Warren Paper Mill, where he worked the remainder of his life. He was the foreman in the Cutting Department. He was a member of the Presumpscot Valley Lodge of the Knights of Pythias. In 1866 Charles married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Deering Grant. She was born in 1848 and was the daughter of Stephen and Sara Grant. Charles and Lizzie had six children, one daughter and five sons. Their daughter, Annie, worked in a mill briefly, then became a nurse. She never married, and took care of her father and his brother, George, during their senior years. The family lived at 120 Lamb Street in Westbrook. Only one of Charles' sons followed him into the mill. That was his oldest son, George W. Hunt, who was called "Grip". Charles' wife died in February, 1910. Fourteen years later, Charles joined her.
