Description	:	Her gravestone has no name on it, only Mother, which is lovely, but that certainly doesn't tell the whole story. Dolly was born in Westbrook, Maine, and her given name was Dorothy, but Dolly is how she was known. Her parents are unknown, but may have been George Babb and Almira Chute Jordan. This set of parents had three known sons, John Babb, born 1812, Edward R. Babb, born 1815, and David Webster Babb, born 1825. They also had at least two daughters, names not recorded. Dolly was born in Westbrook, Maine, and her given name was Dorothy, but Dolly is how she was known. Her parents are unknown, but may have been George Babb and Almira Chute Jordan. This set of parents had three known sons, John Babb, born 1812, Edward R. Babb, born 1815, and David Webster Babb, born 1825. They also had at least two daughters, names not recorded. One of them could have been Dolly. The book regarding the Chute Family in America states they had a total of 7 children. (Almira Jordan's mother was Ruth Chute.) Additional reasons are: Dolly's first son was named George, and her first daughter was named Almira, her possible mother's name. Her last son, John, was given the middle name of Webster. Her possible brother, David, carried the middle name Webster. Also, Dolly's birth year of 1818 would fit into this family. Be that as it may, we know that Dolly filed intentions to marry Phineas Hunt on June 28, 1834. She would have been 16 years old. Phineas was 18 years older than her, making him 34. Their first child, Almira W. Hunt was born April 10, 1835 in Biddeford, Maine. Her next two children, George and Charlotte, were born in Westbrook, Maine, her hometown. The family then moved to Portsmouth, NH where the remaining children were born. Sadly, their daughter, Charlotte, died there in 1849, only 10 years old, the victim of a factory accident. Phineas apparently died about 1853 as Dolly moved her family back to Westbrook, Maine about that time. She continued to live there the remainder of her life. Tragically, she lost two more children in mill accidents, Susan and James. Before James died, he enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War, and with the enlistment bonus he received, he bought Dolly a home in Westbrook. Her son George, who never married, but served in the infantry during the Civil War, lived with Dolly and became her caregiver in her later years. Here is her obituary: From the Daily Eastern Argus, November 16, 1900: "Mrs. Dorothy Hunt of Cumberland Mills (a section of Westbrook), died yesterday morning after a short sickness at the advanced age of 82 years. Funeral services will be held Saturday at two o'clock from her late residence on Cumberland Street. Mrs Hunt is survived by two sons, George and Charles Hunt, both residents of Westbrook." The obituary is telling, in some respects. No mention is made of her youngest son and only daughter also surviving her. The son had gone west. Had he lost touch with the family? Her only daughter, Myra, lived in Massachusetts. Were they estranged? More food for thought.
