Description	:	Charles Harold Luedke, age 87, of Spencer, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska. He was born on June 17, 1929, the son of William and Sylva Carlson Luedke, on a farm northeast of Spencer, Nebraska. Chuck started school at a country school. Read More	Charles Harold Luedke, age 87, of Spencer, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska. He was born on June 17, 1929, the son of William and Sylva Carlson Luedke, on a farm northeast of Spencer, Nebraska. Chuck started school at a country school. After the family moved closer to Spencer, Chuck went to school in Spencer through the 12th grade, graduating in 1946. He worked at the Farmers Union Coop for a year, and then went to Lincoln where he attended the University for one and a half years. March of 1949, took Chuck to Seattle (where his brother Vernie was) where he worked at Boeing. In 1950, he was back in Nebraska where he helped build 60 large grain bins throughout the state. In September 1951, Chuck joined the Army and in January of 1952, was shipped to Korea for 13 months. Back from the war, Chuck decided to go to San Diego, California to attend San Diego State College. worked for Standard Stations while attending college. In 1954, Chuck met Marjorie Ericson and her daughter, Paula. They married on August 6, 1955 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Two more children, Barbara and David, were later added to their family. After graduating from San Diego State in 1957, Chuck worked for Ryan Aviation for several years and then Ryan Electronics. They also lived on a farm near Craig, Nebraska before moving back to Los Angeles. In 1965, Chuck, Marge, and Paula moved back to Spencer and in 1966, he took over the John Deere Dealership. He ran the business until 1986, when he retired. In 1989, they moved to Minneapolis to live with their son, David, who was ill, living there until he passed away in 1990. Back in Spencer, they purchased a pickup and a fifth-wheel trailer and started traveling. Their first trip was to Branson, Missouri and Illinois. Soon it was off to Arizona for the winter. June of 1991, took Chuck and Marge on a ten week trip to Alaska. After that they traveled through all of the lower 48 states and most of Canada. Their last “trailer” trip was eight weeks to Canada, Niagara Falls, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and back through Washington D.C. to tour all the monuments, to Saint Louis to the Gateway Arch, and finally home to Spencer! In 2005, the family and Michael went to our 50th state, Hawaii, for Chuck and Marge’s 50th anniversary. This was a wonderful trip for all! On January 1, 2006, Chuck and Marge moved to the Highland House so he had assistance for Marge. He lost his best friend, Marge, in 2009, after over 50 years. Chuck slowed down a bit but did fly to Oregon in 2010, to help celebrate his buddy, Stan Fisher, celebrate his 80th birthday. They had a great time and played cards all week! In 2011, Chuck and his girls, Paula and Barb, drove to Seattle to visit his brother, Vernie. Kelli and Chase flew out for the weekend to visit. What a memorable trip! Chuck’s last big trip was in 2012. His “whole” family (Paula, Barb, Bill, Kelli, Chase, Laura, and Michael) took a fantastic eleven day Alaskan vacation. An “AMAZING” trip! Chuck did make a few more small trips, mostly to Lincoln. He was looking forward to Kelli’s wedding this fall and Chase’s in the spring. Chuck was a member of United Methodist Church of Spencer, American Legion, Cemetery Board, and Church Board. He was also a member of Masons, Lions Club, Community Club, and Volunteer Fire Department. Chuck enjoyed bowling and golf until his body told him to quit. He loved watching golf on T.V. and always made sure he was awake at 4:30 p.m. to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Chuck enjoyed playing poker, cribbage, and pinochle with his friends. He was an amazing, generous man, with a big presence and a bigger heart. Never shy to say what was on his mind or offer advice and probably always think he was right! Chuck is survived by his brother, Vernie Luedke; daughters, Paula Pennington and Barbara (Bill) Collier; special “son”, Michael Nikolas; grandchildren, Kelli Collier (fiancé Richard TenEyck) and Chase Collier (fiancé Catherine Hoage); great-grandsons, Levi Steenhoven and Ryan Suhr; and brother-in-law, Harold Haun. He was preceded in death by: his wife and best friend, Marge; son, David; parents, William and Sylva Luedke; brother and sister-in-law, Don (June) Luedke; sister, Helen Haun; sister-in-law, Dorothy Luedke; and granddaughter and great-grandson, Laura and Sean Suhr. Funeral services on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at United Methodist Church in Spencer. Burial in Union Cemetery in Spencer. Obituary information from Brockhaus Funeral Home, Spencer, Nebraska.
