Charles Harvey Bacon was born Aug. 19, 1908, at Hopkinton, the son of Charles Curtis and Evalena (Orr) Bacon. He received his education in the Buck Creek schools. He later started to farm with his parents. Charles Harvey Bacon and Florence Wilson were married Feb. 8, 1926. The couple made their home near Buck Creek, where they farmed and raised their family of five. The couple later divorced. Charles Harvey Bacon and Leona (Meier) Hausman were married Nov. 16, 1962, at Dubuque. The couple farmed in the Buck Creek area for four years before moving to Monticello, where Harvey worked as a carpenter. He became semi-retired in 1981 and started a saw sharpening business. He retired completely in 1985. Harvey is survived by his wife; three daughters, Ione Himebaugh and V. J. Stadtmuller, both of Monticello and Ramona Melchert of Hopkinton, two stepchildren, Roland Hausman of Plano, TX and Patricia Thomas of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fay Bacon of Hopkinton and Vern Bacon of Lakeland, FL; three sisters, Vera Bacon and Neva Thompson, both of Muscatine, and Atha Cahalan of Huntsville, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter, one brother and one sister. Casketbearers will be Robert McGrew, Jeff Stadtmueller, Pat Himebaugh, Dan Thole, David Melchert and Doug Melchert. Goettsch Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
