Description	:	Charles Henry Meier, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Meier, died last night, February 28, 1939, at the Atchison Hospital. He had undergone an operation for a ruptured appendix last Friday morning and his condition had been considered very serious all along. He was 21 years old. He had undergone an operation for a ruptured appendix last Friday morning and his condition had been considered very serious all along. He was 21 years old. Charles Meier was born September 14, 1917, in Atchison, and had lived his entire life here. He was educated at the St. Benedict parochial school and was graduated from the Atchison High School in 1935. In 1936, he began work at the Locomotive Finished Material Co., where was a machinist aprentice for two and a half years. He had worked up until Thursday noon when he was taken ill. He was a fine young man, devoted to his parents and his brothers and sisters. Everyone who knew him like him and spoke highly of him. Although he had never taken an active part in athletics during his school years, he took a great interest in baseball and football and keenly enjoyed both sports. He was a member of St. Benedict's church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. Atchison people feel the deepest sympathy for the Joseph Meier family. Just six months ago they lost another son, Dorgan Meier, a young boy in high school, who was also taken ill with a bursted appendix. Both were such splendid young people that their deaths seem the greatest tragedy. Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Rosemary, Bertha Jean and Ruthanna, and two brothers, LeRoy and John, all of the home. His maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Dorgan, aslo survive. The Meier home is at 1020 North Tenth street. Funeral services were held at St. Benedict's Catholic Church and burial in Mount Calvary cemetery.
