Read More	Charles “Chuck” Joseph Terrell, 86, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at his home in New Castle with his family at his side. Chuck was born in Divide Creek (Silt), CO, to William “Bill” and Anna (Collins) Terrell on May 18, 1927. He started school at the Flat Iron School on West Divide Creek south of Silt. Having to move for high school and his father’s trapping jobs, he started in New Castle, CO, for 8th and 9th grade, and then in Walden, CO, for 10th and 11th grade, and finally graduated from New Castle High School in May of 1945. In July of 1945, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps and sent to Shepherd Field, Texas, for basic training. After that he was sent to Chanute Field, Illinois, and given a clerk typist job in the medics. He worked in the hospital there until his discharge in 1946 having served approximately 18 months. He worked on ranches until 1948 when he started work for the Forest Service in Eagle, CO. He worked two years as a forest trail maintenance and handyman there. In 1950, he acquired a government trapping job in Rangely, CO. He worked as a trapper (predator control agent) full time until his retirement in 1987. He was sent to quite a few different locations in Colorado during his career. After his retirement he kept up the place in New Castle up East Elk Creek (which his family had since 1944, and where he lived most of his life), and ran a small herd of cattle or sheep every summer. Above all else Chuck was a dedicated Dad and Grandad. He raised his three children with the help of his mother Ann. From the time his grandchildren were big enough he often had at least one of them with him, and loved seeing his great-grandchildren. He was quite the outdoorsman, spent as much free time as possible with a fly rod fishing for trout (this passion was handed down from his dad and the Terrell Uncles), loved to trap and hunt, and up until diagnosed with macular degeneration was an avid reader and loved Westerns. Chuck was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2011 and was on oxygen full time from that point on, and towards the end diagnosed with lung cancer. He was tough and never complained, and never failed even in his final days to share a grin with his kids and grandkids. He was a member of the American Legion, the NRA, and a lifetime FFA member. Chuck leaves behind his daughter Sally (Ed) Walker; son Richard (Carol) Terrell; his brother Gern (Norma) Terrell; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert William Terrell; his son Robert “Bob” Terrell; and his grandson Grant William Walker. Services will be held at the Rifle Funeral Home on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. A reception at Chuck’s house in New Castle will follow the services. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Union Divide Creek Cemetery or the American Legion.
