Claude. Julian Claude (21) first appears in records in Adams, LaSalle, Illinois living with Gustave (35) and Marie Cloud (38) in the 1850 Census. Julian Claude (21) first appears in records in Adams, LaSalle, Illinois living with Gustave (35) and Marie Cloud (38) in the 1850 Census. The history book of LaSalle county Illinois states that the French Population had a custom of inter marring in their own family so that they could marry someone from France. Julian Charles Claude came to the United States around 1849. Julian was living right next door to Julia's family in the 1850 Census. Julian C Claude married Julia Bohy Claude on January 1, 1851 in LaSalle County Illinois. They list her name as Maria Julia Boye. They list Julian as Charles Julian Cloud. The known children were Emily S. Claude (1851-1939), Jane Claude (Frank) Beshey (1853-1940), Caroline J Claude (1857-1863), Mary J. "Mollie" Claude (Lyman) Middleton (1861-1942). Both Julian and Julia came from the Alsac Lorraine area of France. It was probably near Ban de La Roche. All the children were born in Illinois. The family lived in Adams in LaSalle County, Illinois for many years where Julian farmed. In 1870, Julian and Julia were living with two of their girls and Julia's mother Regina Bohy in Adams, LaSalle, Illinois. Julia's parents were Jacob and Regina Bohy. They moved to Troy , Wright, Woolstock around 1880. The youngest daughter Mary called Mollie is still living with them. Mary will marry Lyman Middleton and live in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Julia dies in 1894 and Julian remarries in 1896. Julian marries Mrs. Catherine Bernard known as Kate on November 12, 1896. They will have seven years together until Julian dies in 1903. Julian was almost 74 years old. Julian was probably from a farm area called Ban de la Roche in France. There is a club called Friends of Ban de la Roche in Woolstock that was established back in the fifties. There were so many residents who came from this small farming area in France that the towns became sister cities. Groups of residents have gone back and forth since the 1950's and stay in private homes. They do this exchange every five years. There were still people emigrating to Woolstock in the 1950's and it was common to hear people speaking French. Obituary from the Webster City Paper..April 1, 1903 Death of Julian Claude Julian Claude of Woolstock died Monday of stomach troubles. Mr Claude was 74 years of age and had resided in Wright County for 20 years. He was one of the older, substantial, and widely respected citizens of the county. The funeral was held at the Woolstock M.E. Church, Thursday at 10 a.m. and interment in the French Church Cemetery.
