The Chronicle, Odebolt, Iowa - August 3, 1905 - On Tuesday morning the grim reaper cut short the life of Charles Lewis Davenport for over 22 years a respected citizen of Odebolt. On Sunday evening he was taken with sever pains in his bowels and suffered intensely until his death. On March 19, 1903 he had a stroke of paralysis which enfeebled him but for the past 6 months had been getting better and on Saturday last when we talked with hi on the street he seemed to be in excellent health. He was conscious until within 5 minutes of his demise. Uncle Charley Davenport, as he was familiarly known, was born Jan 15, 1830 in Sandusky county, Ohio, the son of John and Mary Pratt Davenport, who came to Ohio from Vermont at an early day. In 1837 his parents moved to Pulaski county Indiana where in 1854 he married Miss Mary Parnell, who died in Odebolt April 1, 1888. In the spring of 1857 the young couple moved to Clinton county Iowa locating near Elwood where the deceased soon acquired 1,100 acres of land. In 1874 Mr Davenport purchased a section of land in Clinton township this county and in the spring of 1883 moved from Clinton county to Odebolt. In Sept 1880 he married Margaret, widow of Henry Keck, an excellent woman who survives him. By his first wife he had 5 children: Laura Isabel, wife of David Correll of Clinton township; John Albert of Clinton township; Agnes who died at the age of 6 years; Lincoln Horace of Richland township; and Jesse Cooper, editor and proprietor of the Clear Lake Reporter. The four living children are here and will attend the funeral tomorrow. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev Gilles in the M.E. church this Thursday forenoon. 1893 - C.L. Davenport married Mary Parnell. He was a native of Sandusky county, Ohio, and now resides in Odebolt, Iowa. Mary was born in Westmoreland county, England, and died in 1888, aged fifty-five years. Mr. and Mrs. Davenport had, five children, four now living: Laura, Albert, and Lincoln residing near Odebolt; and Jessie, living in Odebolt. 2nd MARRIAGE Groom: Charles L.
