In 1825 Charles was the first of his family to leave Tennessee and move to Illinois. His seven brothers, followed in 1826-1831 to settle east of "Coup's Mound". September 16, 1828 Charles married Susan Ann 'Susannah' Harris in Green County, IL. Charles purchased land in 1830 in Macoupin County, IL and moved his family.
