The 1875 birth year also agrees with the information I have found in the other Wapello County records. Charles was the son of George McDonough and his first wife Susan Redman. He is first found in the 1880 Census for Wapello County, Iowa, living with his parents; his sister Ida M., age 11, and his brother William H., age 10 months. Charles married Emma Sheppard on June 23, 1899, in Ottumwa. They were the parents of two known children, George J. and Elsie. The couple was later divorced, and Emma R. Shepherd McDonough was married to George Jordon on August 12, 1908, in Ottumwa. (Sheppard-Shepherd names spelled as in records.) In the 1910 Census for Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, George and Emma Jordan were living with her three children - Harry E. Kinnen or Skinner, George J. McDonough, and Elsie McDonough. In the 1920 Census for Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, Emma Jordan was divorced and living with her son George J. McDonough, daughter-in-law, Esther L. McDonough, and granddaughter Rosetta McDonough. Charles' obituary, which I have transcribed below, states that he was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George McDonough. At the time of Charles' death, his father George was remarried to Margaret (Brown) McDonough. He is buried in the same lot as his father and step-mother. His obituary also states that he was survived by two children Georgia and Elsie. He was survived by a son George and a daughter Elsie. ------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," Thursday, May 20, 1915: Charles N. McDonough passed away this morning at 7:20 o'clock at the home of his brother, William McDonough, 318 South Willard street, at the age of 40 years. He is survived by his wife and two children Georgia [sic] and Elsie, also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George McDonough, one brother William and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Chambers, Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Pearl Wright, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Ida Peyton of Garner. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of his brother, 318 south Willard street, conducted by Rev. M.E. Reusch of the Willard Street M.E. church. Interment will be made in Shaul cemetery.
