Sterling, well known waterman of Crisfield, passed away at his home near Ward's Crossing Friday evening. He was 68 years old and the cause of his death was cancer. He had been in poor health for the past two years. The deceased was born in Fairmount, the son of the late Nicholas and Sarah Dize Sterling. He had made his home in Crisfield for several years. He was well and favorably known throughout the tidewater area. He was a prominent churchman and had been a Sunday School teacher for twenty years. He was a man who commanded the highest respect from those who knew him. He was a faithful husband, a loving father and a good citizen. His death is a severe loss to his home, his church and the community. He was a member of Peninsula Council, No. 132, Jr. O.U.A.M. Mr. Sterling is survived by his devoted wife, Mrs. Ida P. Sterling; one son, Ralph B. Sterling, of Crisfield: three daughters, Mrs. Nora R. Blades, Mrs. Loreta L. Hinman and Mrs. Lula May Sterling, all of Crisfield; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Sterling and Mrs. Sallie Sterling, of Crisfield and Mrs. Lucy Ford of Rumbley, and one half-brother, George Dize, of Rumbley. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from Mariners M.P. Church. There, in the church he loved so well, and where he labored so faithfully for more than two decades, his casket banked with flowers, the last rites were conducted by his pastor, Rev W.C. Mumford, assisted by Rev. J.R. McKeawn of New Church, Va., a former pastor, and Rev. H.G. Hager, pastor of Trinity M.P. Church, Marion. Interment was in Mariners cemetery.
