He was born on a farm in Franklin township January 3, 1862 the son of Andrew R and Elizabeth Baxter. He received a common school education and attended Teachers Normal at Angola and Waterloo, taught school for several years and later took up the occupation of farming which he followed until his sickness. He was united in marriage with Rachael Miller of Hamilton and to this union was born two sons and two daughters, Ross who passed away during his school days, Bryon of Hamilton, Ella, a teacher at East Chicago and Myrtle, a teacher at Michigan City Indiana. The deceased was one of a family of children of whom eight were brothers and four were sisters. Three survive, Miles Baxter of Auburn, Chauncy B Baxter of Hamilton and George D Baxter of Fort Wayne. Mr Baxter was a member of the Christian church of Hamilton and of the Knights of Pythias lodge at that place. He passed through the chairs and is therefore a past chancellor commander of the lodge. Steuben Republican Angola IN October 24, 1934 Death of Charles Baxter CHARLES BAXTER, age 72, of Hamilton passed away about 1:00 o’clock Monday morning after several weeks of intense suffering. He leaves the widow, two daughters, Misses Ella and Myrtle, in the home, and one son, Bryan, of Hamilton. Mr Baxter spent most of his life in Hamilton, where he was a highly respected citizen. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the Christian church with burial in the Hamilton Cemetery. ~submitted by Merllene #47157899
