Description	:	Charles S. Lukens was the fifth and youngest child of Arminda (née Painter) and Joseph Lukens. He was born in April 1860 in Jefferson Township, Richland County, Ohio, where his family farmed. The Lukens family moved in 1863 to Iowa, and settled on a farm in Elk Creek Township, Jasper County. Charles S. Lukens worked as a painter and paper hanger, later as a general contractor; enumerated in 1895 in Madison County, Iowa, and in 1910 in Des Moines, Iowa. He remained unmarried. Charles S. He was born in April 1860 in Jefferson Township, Richland County, Ohio, where his family farmed. The Lukens family moved in 1863 to Iowa, and settled on a farm in Elk Creek Township, Jasper County. Charles S. Lukens worked as a painter and paper hanger, later as a general contractor; enumerated in 1895 in Madison County, Iowa, and in 1910 in Des Moines, Iowa. He remained unmarried. Charles S. Lukens died from apoplexy (stroke) in 1928 at the Clarinda State Hospital in Clarinda, Iowa. (The hospital handled both geriatric and mentally ill patients.) According to his death certificate (hospital superintendent was informant), Charles S. Lukens was a Des Moines resident, a painter, age 67, his birth date unknown.
