Read More	IOWA PVT HQ CO 69 INF 10 DIV WORLD WAR IIObituary of Charles Wilbert Shipley (Copied from the original) Charles Wilbert Shipley, second son of Charles N. and Margaret Bixler Shipley, was born on a farm ½ mile south of Nodaway, Iowa on July 5, 1889 and passed away at his home on April 20, 1968 at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 15 days. He grew to manhood south of Nodaway where he attended the Northup Country School and the Nodaway High School. In 1909, Bill and Mrs. Bess Norcutt McCoy were the first to graduate from the 12th grade. Later, Bill attended the Highland Park College of Des Moines, Iowa. From there he taught for several years in rural schools around the Nodaway and Brooks communities. On June 21, 1919, Bill was married to Ethel Westlake of Brooks, Iowa, and to this union 3 children were born: Gerald W. of Villisca, Iowa, Mrs. Virginia Riddle of Randolph, Mass., and Imogene Burright of Nodaway, Iowa. Bill was a WWI veteran, a member of the Nodaway Legion and WWII Barracks 1551 of Corning, Iowa, a lifelong member of the Nodaway Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for several years. Bill and Ethel lived on the old Shipley homestead ½ mile south of Nodaway for a few years before moving to their present home where he, in 1924, staked out his house in a wheat field. On the homestead he planted some 600 evergreens and fruit trees and made the place one which was a part of God's creation. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Fred, a brother Howard, and one sister Mary Wallace. He is survived by his wife Ethel, a cousin Roscoe Robert of Green, Kansas, 4 grandsons, 10 granddaughters, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Note: Appeared in the Adams County Free Press Newspaper in April 1968. This time period of this newspaper was not copied online for some reason.- so this actual obituary can not be found online at the Ancestry.com site with the other years of this newspaper. His wife, Grandma Shipley had her Grandaughter Ann Shipley Davies type his obituary from her copy into Ann's Villisca High School family tree story. An "Original" newspaper copy of this obituary is no longer available.
