Charlotte Fern Davis, daughter of David and Charlotte Redding Virgason was born Oct. 8, 1900 near Ada, Kans., and departed this life May 29, 1987 in Minneapolis hospital at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 21 days. Fern attended the Rose Hill Country School and the Minneapolis High School. She worked at the local telephone office as an operator. Fern was united in marriage to J.M. (Matt) Davis, Dec. 31, 1922 in Minneapolis, Kans. Immediately following their wedding the couple set up housekeeping and began farming in the Rose Hill community. To their union were born four sons and two daughters. She was an active member in the Presbyterian Church, very active in community affairs, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a charter member of the Jolly Janes. In 1957 she and Matt retired from farming and moved to a small acreage near Delphos. He died June 23, 1977. Later Fern moved to the Billing's Court in Delphos where she resided at the time of her death. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband Matt; one daughter Claudina; one son Max; and one great-grandson Sean. She leaves to mourn her passing, three sons, James Bruce Davis and Lowell Lavern Davis, both of Delphos, and Ronald Dean Davis, Minneapolis; one daughter, Ella Vaughn Melander and husband Robert L., Gypsum, Kans.; one sister, Cora Reynolds, Vancouver, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Hospice of Ottawa County.
