Rites At Wessington For Chester Sass, Lifetime Resident Funeral services for Chester Sass, 56, and a lifetime resident of the Wessington community, were held Thursday afternoon, October 26, from the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington. Interment was in the Wessington Cemetery. Rev. E.A. Gruneich officiated at the service, and pallbearers were Kenneth Watson, Ted Syring, Henry Sievers, Ross Palmer, Ray Shoemaker and George Freese. Sass died October 22 in St. John’s Hospital in Huron, following a lingering illness. He was born at Vayland, April 15, 1911, to Mrs. and Mrs. William Sass. He lived in the Wessington area all of his life, where he was engaged in farming and trucking, and more recently was employed as manager of the Farmer’s Elevator. He married Ellen Gainor, April 12, 1952, and she preceded him in death, August 13, 1967. Survivors include one son, Larry Gainor, Minneapolis; one daughter, Mary Ellen, Mrs. Dennis Letsche, Miller; five grandchildren; seven sisters, Mrs. Ada Stobbs, Wessington; Mrs. Meta Coon Cavour; Mrs. Etta Meritt, Wolsey; Mrs. Iva McDonell, Murdo; Mrs. J. R. Greiner and Mrs. Mike Reese, both of Bellflower, Calif.; three brothers, Harlan, Lake Preston; William, Huron; and Maurice, Long Beach, Calif.
