Rev. A.C. Merrigan of the Bates Church had charge. The quartet Mrs. S.N. Bottum, Mrs. L.R. Chesebro, Marguerite Hultman and Mrs. Mabel Alarie, with Mrs. Eva DeHaven at the piano sang "Going Down the Valley" and "Whispering Hope. As a solo Mrs. Bottum sang "Going Home." Pall bearers were Ogee Johnson, Ed Wells, Arvy Ravenscroft, Roy Davidson, Roy Miller, Chris Mortensen, Martin Woods and Theo. Fisher. Burial was made in the Wessington cemetery. William Sass was born to John and Caroline Sass March 6, 1870, at West Point, Nebr. He was married to Elsie Hansen at West Point, Nebr., March 10, 1896. Thirty-six years ago they moved to South Dakota where they ived in Hand Conty all that time with the exception of the first several years when they lived in Beadle County. Fifteen children were born to this union. One son and one daughter died in childhood. He was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor. Surviving him besides the widdow are five sons, Harlan of Wolsey, William, Jr., of Huron, Hobart and Chester of Wessington, Sgt. Maurice Sass of Ft. Brady, Mich. eight daughters, Mrs. Guy Stobbs of Wessington, Mrs. Jay Coon of Huron, Mrs. James Meritt of Vayland, Mrs. Clylde McDonell of Murdo, Mrs. Vernon Koch of Wolsey, Mrs. Mike Reece of Denver, Colo., Erma and Leola of Wessington; also two brothers, John and Herman of West Point, Ner., six sisters, Mrs. G.W. Herman, Mrs. Pete Thompson and Mrs. Amelia Schueth, all of West Point, Mrs. Frank Gaster of Denver, Mrs. Bertha Nelson of Albion, Nebr., and Mrs. William Kay of Wakefield, Nebr. January 1943
