Chester was born October 23, 1922 at Blue Hill, Nebraska, the son of Simon and Ida (VanBoening) Krueger. The family moved to a farm near Amherst in 1930. He attended the parochial school and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 5, 1936 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. He graduated from Holyoke High School in 1941. Chester served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. During his training, he sang with the Great Lakes Naval Choir. He was a sailor on the U.S.S. Navarre (tanker). He also sang at many weddings and funerals. On August 8, 1948, Chester was united in marriage to Sibyl Jackson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. Soon following, they moved to Holyoke. At this time Chet was farming in the Amherst area and working for Colver Brothers. Four children were born to this union, Randall, Thomas, Noreen and Eric. He soon bought Bennett Tin Shop in Holyoke which became Krueger Sheet Metal. He fabricated sheet metal for many uses and was in sales and installation of furnaces and air conditioners. Many people will remember him for his precise workmanship. After selling his business, he was maintenance supervisor at Holyoke High School and later at Melissa Memorial Hospital. Also during this time he again took up farming and ranching. Soon after Chet and Sibyl moved to San Antonio, Texas, Chet took on a new hobby. He enjoyed working with stained glass making many pictures and lamp shades. He was also happiest when he could be helping his fellow man and serving the Lord and his Church. Family was always very important to him. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Andrew Krueger. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sibyl N. Krueger of San Antonio, Texas; children Randall Krueger and wife Chris of Portland, Oregon, their children Jason, Dana and Laura; Thomas Krueger and wife Beth of Fayetteville, Georgia and their children Trent, Jeremy and Jonathan and Chet's great grandson Tyler, son of Trent; Noreen Cohen and husband Randy of San Antonio, Texas and their son Brian; and Eric Krueger and wife Shari of Dallas, Texas and their children Colton and Erica; sisters Leona Brinkema and Lucia Vieselmeyer, both of Holyoke, Laurine Ackerman of Portland, Oregon, Ida Nierman of Grand Junction and Eunice Oltjenbruns and her husband Elton of Holyoke; brothers Russell Krueger and his wife Donna of Amherst, William Krueger and wife Glenda of Valentine, Nebraska, Jay Dean Krueger and wife Joyce of Holyoke and Daniel Krueger and wife Carol of Larkspur; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9 at King of Kings Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas with the Rev. Dr. Henry Biar officiating.
