She died November 7, 2006 in Holyoke at the age of 90. Lucia was baptized September 10, 1916 in Blue Hill, Nebraska. She was confirmed May 4, 1930 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. She attended grades 1-7 at Trinity Lutheran School in Blue Hill, Nebraska, then moved with her parents at the age of 13 to Amherst. Lucia attended 8th grade at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Amherst and 9th and 10th grade at Phillips County High School in Amherst. She completed a two-year course on Concordia Sunday School teacher's training from Pastor W. W. Wilk from 1938-40 and taught Sunday school for quite a number of years in Amherst. In 1934 Lucia went to Albuquerque, New Mexico to work for Aunt Lottie Vogel in their restaurant. After returning to the Amherst area, she worked in private homes taking care of the sick and doing housework. She was also a great help at home. Lucia was married to Allan Vieselmeyer on May 18, 1939 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. They lived in a three-room house east of the Amherst Elevator. Two sons were born: Dale in 1941 and Verdis in 1944. In 1942 they moved two miles west and one mile north of Amherst. In 1957 they bought a farm northeast of Amherst and built a new home. Allan died June 22, 1974. Lucia was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and LWML. She was the congregational representative for St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the 1970s and 1980s for the Lutheran Bible Translators. For 16 years, Lucia worked part time at the Heginbotham Library in Holyoke delivering books on tape to shut-ins and elderly people. Lucia loved her family and supported them in everything they did. She was an excellent cook and did a lot of cooking for the harvest crews. Her family will remember Lucia most for her love for her Lord and her unwavering commitment to putting the Lord's work first. Lucia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allan; one brother, Chester Krueger; and one sister, Leona Brinkema. Surviving relatives include two sons, Dale of Amherst and Verdis and wife Pam of Amherst; four grandchildren, Brent and wife Tina Vieselmeyer, Charla Leighton, Erik and wife Michelle Vieselmeyer and Elisa and husband Bill Bodnar; 10 great grandchildren, Austin and Alex Vieselmeyer, Sierra and Sidney Leighton, Erin, Megan and Kristin Vieselmeyer and Emily, Erika and Eve Bodnar; three sisters, Laurine Ackerman, Ida Nierman and Eunice and husband Elton Oltjenbruns; four brothers, Russell and wife Donna Krueger, William and wife Glenda Krueger, Jay Dean and wife Joyce Krueger and Daniel and wife Carol Krueger; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 11 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst with interment following at Holyoke Memorial Park in Holyoke.
