Mr. Clark, born in Charleston on September 5, 1922, was the son of Fritz Henry Clark and Ethel Belle Parks Clark. Mr. Clark was a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston. Mr. Clark, born in Charleston on September 5, 1922, was the son of Fritz Henry Clark and Ethel Belle Parks Clark. Mr. Clark was a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston. He dearly loved the Lord. During World War II, Mr. Clark served as a Second Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, first in the North Atlantic Convoy Missions (1942-43), and then in the Pacific Theatre (1944-45). He was involved in twelve invasions in the Pacific Campaign which included the Battle of Ormoc Bay and the invasions of Borneo. He also served with the Occupation Forces in Korea and China. A 1950 graduate of the Atlanta College of Art, Mr. Clark worked in Design and was the Staff Illustrator at the U.S. Naval Supply Center in Charleston. He participated in the Navy Combat Art Program, and several of his paintings including "Replenishment at Sea," were added to the Navy Combat Art collection in Washington, D.C. The works of his distinguished career in art are represented in numerous private and public collections including: Former President Gerald Ford, Admiral Hyman Richover, South Carolina National Bank Bicentennial Collection, Navy and Marine Combat Art Collection, Gibbes Art Gallery, The Yorktown Association of New York, and USS Seattle. He is listed in Who's Who in American Art, represented in the tricentennial publication: Contemporary Artists of South Carolina and he was a member of the American Society of Marine Artists as well as the Salmagundi Club of New York. Mr. Clark was a member of the S.C. Huguenot Society and a life member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was a sensitive painter of depth and rich substance. The testimony of his faith in God is evident in his artwork. A recurring theme in his art comes from the strong sentiments he had for his coastal homeland. He always found the lowcountry to be an inspiration for his work. He often said, "In my childhood, the attraction of the waterfront, marshlands, and the streets of the old city would draw me on solitary walks." Throughout Mr. Clark's career, he was well loved by many as an artist and teacher. He was a renowned and respected artist who was able to touch the lives of countless people. He has left us a lasting legacy. He was preceded in death by siblings Samuel Chovine Clark, Carroll Harvin Clark, Elford Henry Clark, baby boy Clark, and Margaret Ethel Clark. He is survived by his wife Carol McDaniel Clark, his sons Chevis Delwin Clark, Jr., Freddie Vincent Clark (Sarah) and David Allen Clark (Cathy), daughter Deanne Louise Clark, brother Fritz Herbon Clark, sisters Vila Cain Clark Shad (Bobby) and Betty Joyce Clark Evans, stepsons Robert Emmett Lee, IV (Melanie) and Kevin Michael Lee (Mae Beth), grandchildren Sarah Clark Davis, Caitlin Clark Goss, Cameron Clark, Bailey Lee, Courtney Lee and Isabella Lee, many loving nieces and nephews, goddaughter Meagan Scott, and devoted friends Maddy, Scott, Hannah, Sarah, and Graham, Sara Bodson, Raymond and Carmen Covington. The relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service, January 24, 2012, in the Redeemer Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
