Description	:	Chris Mortensen, youngest of 11 children born to Lars and Margrethe Mortensen on a farm near Romlose, Denmark, was born April 8, 1890, and passed from this life May 15, 1986, in the Good Samaritan Center, Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 7 days. Read More	Chris Mortensen, youngest of 11 children born to Lars and Margrethe Mortensen on a farm near Romlose, Denmark, was born April 8, 1890, and passed from this life May 15, 1986, in the Good Samaritan Center, Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 7 days. His mother passed away when he was an infant, so older brothers and sisters helped care for him. He came to America in 1912 with his family. They located northeast of Hardy on a farm. He served his country with the U.S. Army, 136th Infantry, from October 3, 1917, to June 8, 1919, during World War I. He was married to Lina M. Fredericksen June 26, 1920, in Fairbury, Nebraska. This union was blessed with four children. During World War II he was employed by the Harvard AAF Fire Department and Hastings Ammunition Depot. He was one of very few men who served during two world conflicts. He farmed in the Hardy area until the 1940's. He then moved the family to Superior where he was employed at the Ideal Cement Company until his retirement. After his retirement, for health reasons, they moved to Loveland, Colorado, with their youngest daughter, Delores. After residing there 5 years, Delores married and made her home in Colorado, so the Mortensens returned to Superior to make their retirement home. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Nuckolls County World War I Barracks Association. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lina on October 12, 1984; 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors to mourn his passing include his four children and their spouses, Delores Aitchison and her husband Douglas of Loveland, Colorado, Margaret Simonsen and her husband Clarence of Superior, Nebraska, Eldon Mortensen and his wife Setsuko of Riverton, Wyoming, and Clayton Mortensen and his wife Cathy of Rogers, Arkansas; fifteen grandchildren, Carolyn O'Neal, Curtis Mortensen, James Mortensen, Sherry Mortensen, Sharon Thieme, Lynn Simonsen, Linda Fullerton, Richard Aitchison, Chris Aitchison, Kelly Aitchison, Julie Aitchison, Dougie Aitchison, Sherry, Lori and Dennis Mortensen; eight great grandchildren, Chad O'Neal, Bethany O'Neal, Janet Simonsen, Derek Simonsen, Melissa, Travis and Jason Thieme and Jared Fullerton; many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly mnissed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was a loving father and grandfather. Funeral services were held Monday, May 19, 1986, at 11:00 a.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Hone Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Rev. Ted McIntyre officiating. Music was provided by Lillian Christensen and Julia Pedersen singing "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art" with Gwen Petersen as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Leslie Jensen, Emil Jensen, Don Johanson, Valdon Keeler, Roger Nelson and Wylie Jensen. Military rites were given by the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of Superior, Nebraska.
