Interment was in Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig. Christena Frederika Witt, daughter of Fritz and Johanna (Ohl) Witt, was born in Denison, Iowa on June 16, 1881. She grew up in the Denison community. On February 25, 1902, she was joined in marriage to John Krohnke with Rev. Runge performing the ceremony. Interment was in Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig. Christena Frederika Witt, daughter of Fritz and Johanna (Ohl) Witt, was born in Denison, Iowa on June 16, 1881. She grew up in the Denison community. On February 25, 1902, she was joined in marriage to John Krohnke with Rev. Runge performing the ceremony. After their marriage, the couple lived in Schleswig, where John was in business. Mr. Krohnke died in 1940. She was confirmed as an adult in 1941 in the Lutheran Church, with Pastor E. Schwidder instructing her. She was a long time member of the Ladies Aid Society. For the past six years, Christena made her home at Eventide. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening June 8. She as 89 year old. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Florence Krohnke of Schleswig; a grandson, Verdell Krohnke of Janesville, Wis.; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ella Wilson of Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Vernon Krohnke, two sisters and two brothers. The Schleswig Leader, June 17, 1971
