Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial will be in the Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Vernon Henry Krohnke was born December 1, 1902, on the family farm near Schleswig in Crawford County, the son of John and Christina Krohnke. After three years on the farm, the family moved to Schleswig. He attended school and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1920. During his life in this community, he worked in various businesses. He married Florence Alvena Hamann on December 15, 1927, by the Rev. Schwenk at Grand Township Lutheran Church. He worked as a mechanic at Hollanders Garage, before farming for 10 years. He then worked for Johannes Gosch, Stern and Son and for the last few years, he worked for Crawford County. He is survived by his wife, Florence; one son, Verdelle (Rosemary) Krohnke of Beloit, Wisconsin; one grandson, David Krohnke; and his mother, Christina Krohnke.
