The deceased was born in Germany, October 18, 1818. On emigrating to America he settled in Wisconsin. Later he removed to Nebraska and since 1872 he has been a resident of this county. Mr. Voigtlander's wife died a number of years ago. Ten children were born to them, all of whom survive him. Three of them, Mrs. Lufts, Theodore and Julius Voigtlander still reside here and were present at the funeral. Mr. Voigtlander was well educated in German and was an intelligent man. Of late he has been failing a good deal, caused in part perhaps by financial reverses, and for a few weeks his mind has not been well balanced. The funeral took place from the Lufts' home Wednesday afternoon, where the deceased has resided for some time, and was conducted by Rev. O. W. Fifer. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. THE GENEVA GAZETTE JULY 1, 1898 Died. On Tuesday, June 28, 1898, at 9 o'clock p. m. at the family residence in Geneva of Peritonitis, Christian Voigtlander, aged 79 years, 8 months and 10 days. The funeral occurred on Wednesday at 3 o'clock p. m. from the family residence, Rev. Fifer officiating. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. Christian Voigtlander was born in Germany in the year of 1818. He received a very liberal education and for many years followed the profession of tutor among the wealthy people of his native country. In the year 1885 [sic 1855] he came with his family to America and settled on a farm near Sheboygan, Wisconsin. In 1872 he emigrated with his family to Nebraska and settled on a farm in Chelsea township, three miles east of this city, where he resided until five years ago. Since that time he has made his home with his children. Mr. Voightlander was one of the most widely known and the most respected citizen of this community in the early history of the county. The wife of his youth, the mother of his children, died in the year of 1876. He leaves surviving him the following sons and daughters: Theodore and Julius Voigtlander and Mrs. John P. Luft of this vicinity; Louis Voigtlander and Mrs. Anna Maurer of Oklahoma; John Voigtlander in Colorado; Will Voigtlander in Iowa and the eldest son, Albert, resides in Missouri. We the undersigned desire to express our heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and friends who so kindly rendered assistance and sympathy during the sickness, death and burial of our dear father. John P.
