Theodore Voigtlander passed away at 12:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 1917, at his home in Geneva. He had been ill for about a week with grip which developed into paralysis of the throat. He was born in Germany, August 22, 1847, his age being 69 years, 5 months and 7 days. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and five children, William of Bennington, Vt., Tillie of Hyattville, Wyo., Mrs. Ed Griess, Sutton, Mrs. Frank Battle of Valentine, and Mrs. G. R. Ward of Geneva, and six grand children. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed. He also leaves four brothers and three sisters, Albert of Minnesota, Lewis of Hillsdale, Okla., and John of Denver, Col. The sisters are Mrs. Anna Mourer of Oklahoma, Mrs. Margaret Luft of Lincoln, and Mrs. Minnie Wieden of Oklahoma. He came from Germany with his parents when a boy and resided on a farm in Wisconsin. He enlisted in Company D Forty-fifth Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry, at the age of seventeen and served until the close of the war. Mr. Voigtlander was a pioneer resident of Fillmore county. He settled on a homestead in Madison township in the early seventies. He resided there until he moved to Geneva about twelve years ago and lived here until his death. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal church, of which he was a faithful member, Friday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Geneva cemetery. Mr. Voigtlander began reading The Signal as soon as there was one to read and he remained a loyal patron of the paper until his death. His subscription expired January 17 and it was his custom to call at the office on that day and place his renewal. We cannot remember a time when he failed to remember the date and make this call, which was an annual visit as well as a matter of business. He was a caller at other times also and was always a highly esteemed friend of the paper. He was a man of steady, methodical habits, of strict integrity and high character in every respect. A good man has passed.
