Read More	Christian Flickinger was born in Switzerland, Jan. 28, 1849, and died at his home at Dayton, June 14, 1933 having reached the ripe old age of 84 years, 4 months, 16 days. He grew to young manhood in his native country, and was united in marriage at Thun, Switzerland, to Miss Elizabeth Wenger, Nov. 2, 1877. In 1882 they came to America, arriving in New York harbor Jan. 1, 1883. They came directly to this community, where the remainder of his life has been spent. A residence of more than fifty years in Burnside Township and in Dayton, has entitled him to be regarded as a pioneer, whose labors helped to transform this section of Iowa from its primitive condition to the form it holds today. He engaged in farming all his active life, building up his farm home in Burnside Township, north of town. Twelve years ago, he and Mrs. Flickinger retired from active farm work and moved into Dayton, where they have passed his remaining years, enjoying the relaxation from their labors and early privations. To their union, twelve children have been born, three of whom have preceded him in death. There remain nine children, seven sons and two daughters, to mourn the passing of a devoted father: Amel of Raymond, Minn.; Fred of Grand Meadow, Minn.; Christ, Edward and Vernor, Mrs. R.W. Intermill and Mrs. Van Gabrielson, all of Dayton; Herman of Burnside and August of Ridgeport in Boone County. He also leaves seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. At the age of 16, Mr. Flickinger was confirmed into the Reformed Church in Switzerland. On coming to Burnside Township, he united with the Evangelical organization at Rufers corners, northwest of Dayton and in 1921 transferred his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church at Dayton. Throughout his life he was faithful to the duties and appreciative of the privileges of church membership and a regular in attendance upon church services until failing health no longer permitted. His health broke down three years ago and from then to the end he bore patiently the sufferings incident to a lingering illness. Mr. and Mrs. Flickinger celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Nov. 2, 1927. He was ever a good neighbor and friend, a loving husband and father, and helped to build up his community, as well as his home, by his unfailing industry and his thoughtful care. His funeral was held last Saturday afternoon from the M.E. Church, his pastor, Rev. A.E. Buriff, in charge. Mrs. A.A. Erickson sang. His remains were laid to rest in Dayton Cemetery. - Dayton Review
