Read More	Emerson's Oldest Resident Passes Christian Hoeck, 93, Emerson's oldest resident, passed away at his home at 6:30 Friday morning, March 7. Mr. Hoeck had been in failing health for some time, but his condition did not become serious until two weeks ago. Funeral services were held in the home at 1:30 Monday afternoon and in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church at 2:00 o'clock. St. Paul's choir sang "God Will Take Care of You" and "Under his Wing." The congregation sang "Thee Will I Love" and Jerusalem Thou City Fair and High." Rev. Henry Rowoldt conducted the services. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery under direction of the Demme Mortuary. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Willis Kahl, Ernest Demke, Harold and Donald Belt, Elmer Lamp and Raymond Dittman. Christian Hoeck was born in Lammer Hagen, Holstein , Germany, on April 29, 1853, and was baptized and confirmed there in the Evangelical Lutheran faith. At the age of 20 he came to American and settled at Mineola, Iowa. On August 16, 1877, in Mills County, Iowa, he was united in holy wedlock to Dora Heitman, by Pastor Feisner, of Salem Evangelical Lutheran. In 1894 they moved to a farm north of Emerson, where they lived until they retired in 1918 and moved to Emerson. He passed away at his home at 6:30 Friday morning, March 7, 1947 at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 6 days. Mrs. Hoeck preceded her husband in death on March 29, 1941. Mr. and Mrs. Hoeck were the parents of 13 children. Emma, Johanna, and Annie passed away in infancy, and Mrs. Mary Demke passed away in 1943. Those who mourn his passing are five sons, William of Wakefield , Christopher, Albert and Herman of Emerson, and Harry of Atkinson; four daughters, Mrs. Martha Dittman, Mrs. Clara Lamp and Mrs. Lena Belt of Emerson, and Mrs. Rosa Kahl of Wakefield; 27 grand children; 34 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Schoening of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Lena Green of Lincoln, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Heitman, of Council Bluffs, Ia. Mr. Hoeck was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, attending especially the German services as long as he was able. "The days of our years are three score years and ten and if by reason of strength they be four score years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow." Emerson business houses closed from 2:00 to 3:00 pm., during the funeral services. Numerous spiritual bouquets in memory of Mr. Hoeck were presented by relatives and friends. Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heitman, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heitman, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Heitman Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Heitman, Mrs. Minnie Heitman and Henry Kahl, of Council Bluffs, Ia; George Mass and son of Treynor, Ia., John Bojie of Oakland, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm Kahl and family of Malvern IA.; Mrs. Ella Kahl and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kahl of Winside; Wm. Miller of Reliance, S. D. , and Wm. Lueth of Sioux City.
