Death Claims Chris Ruhe After Illness of Nearly a Year On Saturday last Mr. Chris Ruhe came to Big Sandy from his home near Warrick seemingly in poor health. having been troubled with a sort of malady for nearly a year, and left that day for Fort Benton where he entered the hospital to find out what, if anything, was the real cause for his trouble. The diagnosis of his case found him to be suffering with cancer of the bowels and hopes were held for his complete recovery after the completion of two operations for the ailment. The first operation was performed last Saturday from which he never recovered and he died at 11 o'clock that night, just one hour from the time he would have reached another milestone in his life, his 53rd birthday. Little did any residents of this section think when Mr. Ruhe left here Saturday that in a few short hours they would be called upon to assist in the placing of his remains in their last resting place. Mr. Ruhe was one of the pioneers of this vicinity of some prominence, having lived in this section for the past 25 years and was one of those who have helped pave the way for and make possible the existence of new settlers who have homesteaded here in the last four or five years and his death is deeply mourned by his many, many friends and acquaintances in this vicinity. Christian Ruhe was born Dec. 17, 1861, in Hemmingstedt, Holstein, Germany, and emigrated to this country in 1882 at the age of 21 years, settling first at Dennison, Iowa. From that place he moved to Billings, Montana, in 1888, where he lived until 1890 when he moved to the ranch near Warrick, where he has since lived, engaging in the raising of stock and ranching with his brother, Detlof H. Ruhe, the only member of the family living in this country. He died at Fort Benton Dec. 26, 1914, at 11 o'clock p.m., at the age of 53 years, and the funeral, which was largely attended by old timers and friends of the deceased living in Big Sandy, was held in Fort Benton Tuesday and the remains laid to rest in the Fort Benton cemetery. Mr. Ruhe was married to Miss Anna Norden in 1906 and three little girls bless this union all of whom with their mother and a brother of the deceased are left to mourn his death.
