Stina Karin [Christina Catharina] (born Anders' daughter) Strand was born in Mellby parish, Jönköpings län, Sweden, March 9, 1825, being 79 years, 8 months and 18 days of age at her death. STRAND LAID TO REST On Sunday of last week after a long illness, Mrs. Adolph Strand of this place passed to her long rest. Stina Karin [Christina Catharina] (born Anders' daughter) Strand was born in Mellby parish, Jönköpings län, Sweden, March 9, 1825, being 79 years, 8 months and 18 days of age at her death. She was married to Jonas Danielson in 1843, who died at Andover, Ill., in 1864 [1865]. Of their union eight children were born, six sons and two daughters. Three have preceded the mother to the other land. In 1868 she was married to Adolph Strand at Andover, of which marriage one child, a daughter was born. In 1869 she came with her family to Dayton, and has since lived in this vicinity. Since coming to this place she has been a faithful member of the Lutheran church, never being absent from its services when her health permitted her to attend. Of her it can truthfully be said, "She loved the Lord, his house and holy dwelling place." A loved wife and a tender mother, she will be missed among the members of the mourning family, which consists of a husband, 6 children, 2 step-children, 24 grandchildren, 2 brothers and a sister, also by a large number of relatives and friends. Her remains were laid to rest Wednesday afternoon in Dayton cemetery, her funeral being held from the Lutheran church, Rev. J.A. Christenson, her pastor, conducting the services. A host of friends sympathize with the mourning family in their hour of sorrow. A long life, full of good work was hers, and she surely deserved the approval of the master, "Well Done." Note: Her given name is recorded in Mellby parish church records as "Christina Catharina" born on March 9 and baptized on March 10, 1825, the daughter of Anders Johansson and Anna Maria Persdotter of Kongstorp farm in Mellby parish.
