ONE OF WAPELLO COUNTY'S FIRST SETTLERS CLAIMED BY DEATH Mrs. Christina Gee, who died Monday, at 4 a.m., was one of the last of of Wapello county's early settlers. She had been a resident of this county for fifty-three years, coming here in 1841. She was a member of the U.B. church, and had been for many years a follower of Christ, enduring with patience the toils, hardships, and privations incident to the life of the wife of the sturdy pioneer, who reclaimed this vast wilderness from the hands of its savage aborigines. It was her desire that she be buried in an old-fashioned manner, her body being wrapped in a white shroud and placed in a walnut coffin. The coffin was laid in the earth without a covering box and the boards and straw placed around it after the manner of the funerals of her earlier days. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. England, a retired U.B. minister, who lined out an old funeral hymn while those assembled joined in the singing. The sermon was preached at her home, 817 Wabash Avenue and her remains were followed to their last resting place by a loving concourse of friends. The McIntire cemetery contains the remains of many of Wapello county's first settlers and will always be regarded by the residents of this county with a reverence which respects the sturdiness, the tenacity and the endurance of those who, in spite of all obstacles, first settled the green hills and fertile valleys of this great county. Deaths 1893-1902 Mrs. Christina; aged 93y 7m 7d Wife of Moses Gee, born 12 June 1793, Colchester, Delaware Co., New York. He died after 1860 in Iowa. THERE IS NO HEADSTONE.
