She had attained the age of 77 years, 11 months and 12 days. Funeral services were conducted by the Reverend Peter Grossman at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton on Monday, June 3. The congregation sang two hymns, with Richard Reichert as the organist, and Linda Reichert was at the piano. Burial was in the Sutton Cemetery. Mrs. Ulmer was born on June 19, 1913, near Grafton, NE in Fillmore County. She was the daughter of Peter Ackerman, Jr. and his wife Margaret nee Kitzman. She was baptized at the Salem Free Reformed Church near Sutton on September 17, 1913. During her childhood she attended rural school for eight years at District 16 in Clay County. She was admitted into communicant membership at Hope Reformed Church of Sutton by the rite of confirmation on April 28, 1928. On August 25, 1935, she married Edmund Wilhelm Ulmer at her parents home. Four sons were born to this union. Mrs. Ulmer lived with her husband and family on their farm north of Grafton. She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton from the time of her marriage until her death. She was a member of the Home Builders and Ladies Aid. In recent years she participated in the Women in Fellowship prayer and Bible study group, and frequently assisted younger women of the church during their meetings by caring for their children. After moving to Sutton, she was employed as a cook at the Community Home, and was a baker's assistant at the D & D Bakery in Sutton. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Theodore, Herman and Henry; three sisters, Freda, Rosa and Louise; one step-sister, Rose Sell; and one granddaughter, Mary. Survivors include her four sons and their families: Laurence and wife Phyllis of Sutton; LoRayne and wife Janice of rural Grafton; Kenneth and wife Susan of Rockford, IL.; and Dean and wife Wanda of Sioux Center, IA; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Edward "Jack" Ackerman and his wife Lillian of Sutton. Memorials have been established for the Sutton Community Scholarship Fund, the Sutton Christian School, and Emmanuel Reformed Church. The Kohler-McLaughlin Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
