Military Graveside Services will be conducted following the Funeral Service at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, Nebraska. ---- LoRayne Richard Ulmer was born on February 20, 1938, at the family farm in Fillmore County, NE., to Edmund and Christine (Ackerman) Ulmer. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1955. In 1956, he enlisted in the Navy and served until 1959 at Bellingham, WA. On October 16, 1960, he married Janice (Schukei) Ulmer and to this union, there were 4 children born. In 1965, LoRayne and Janice moved back to the family farm near Lushton, NE. Living at the farm was his pride and joy and was there until 2017 when his health took a turn, and he went to live at Legacy Square in Henderson, NE., until his death on December 3, 2021. He was a member of the Hope Reformed Church and very involved as a Sunday school teacher and elder of the church. He farmed for most of his years and was employed with the York County Roads Department as well, and also bought a sawmill that he did on the side. He was never a man to sit idle and didn't believe in retirement. He enjoyed redoing flatbed trailers with the wood that he cut from the sawmill. Working with his grandchildren on the farm and gardening with them was one of his favorite things to do. So many people remember the bumper crop of vegetables that he would bring to them when it was harvest time in the garden. He enjoyed talking with people and many times you could see him roaming the halls of Legacy Square in his wheelchair keeping the staff "in check". He established great relationships with the residence and staff. He is survived by his children- two sons, two daughters, one brother, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janice; brothers, Dean Ulmer and Laurence Ulmer; sisters-in-law, Marlene Schukei; Joan Werner; and Lois Bullard.
