Description	:	After Christoph and Wilhelmine were married they purchased the farm of her parents and made it their new home, The small farm was located in Creivitz Village, Retztow, Kreis Naugard, Pommern Province near Gollnow and Stettin in Prussia. The house was large with a thatched roof, big ceiling beams and a huge fireplace and hearth. They were blessed with nine children from this marriage. Because the farm was very small they rented extra land to raise feed for the cows, etc. This was still not enough to make a living so Christoph and all the older children, including the girls, worked on the Neitzel Estate. They worked the fields mostly and Emilie also did sewing for the Neitzels. Christoph was a hard working man, stern - not caring much for "play-foolishness". He and his children all worked hard, but they had good times too, playing games in the village. Wilhelmine often had to intercede on the children's behalf, as Christof was all for work, and the children had to have their fun too. All of the children had the name "Friedrich" or "Friedricke" except August. August was born in a different province not ruled by Friedrich. The children went to school to a man teacher. One half day a week was devoted to religious instruction under the minister. On Wednesday and Saturday afternoons there was no school. On Wednesday afternoon the pupils stayed home so their mothers' could wash their clothes to last the rest of the week. On Saturday afternoon they were supposed to clean up and prepare for the Sabbath. On July 30, 1879 the family sailed from Hamburg on the good ship "Westphalia" and landed at Castle Garden, New York 23 days later, Sep 23, 1879. They traveled from there by train to Iron Ridge, Dodge, Wisconsin to join Herman and Emilie (their daughter) Neitzel and their family, where they remained for a little over a year. They learned some English while in Wisconsin and also a little on the train before they arrived there. For instance a boy came through the train with a basket on his arm, calling "Pies for Sale". They bought one to see what "pie" was. In March of 1881 the family moved to Watertown, Codington, Dakota Territory, and in April of that same year Christoph, Wilhelmine and some of the children moved to a farm 8 miles south of Redfield near Crandon, Spink, Dakota Territory. Christoph was kicked by a horse, developed rheumatism which affected his heart, causing his death. Wilhelmine died of Typhoid Fever nine years later.
