Holland The funeral of Christopher C. Holland, whose death was in Saturday's Free Press, was held in Hackney, this morning at 10 o'clock, the Reverend Douglass I. Hobbs, rector of the Grace Episcopal church, of Winfield, officiating. Members of the church choir, Harry Sydall, Misses Madge Bangs, Ruth Swan and Bessie Bookwalter, and Miss Ruth Reed sang. The interment was in the Hackney cemetery. Christopher C. Holland was born October 21, 1853, in Wayne county, North Carolina, on a farm that had been in his family for several generations. When still a youth the family moved to Kansas where he and his parents underwent the usual hardships of a pioneer in a new country. He worked various occupations, became a painter and followed that trade while continuing his studies at night. He became a school teacher and taught several terms in country schools in Cowley county. With the money earned in that manner he paid his way through college and was graduated as a lawyer by the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor with the class of 1880. He practiced law in this county and in Dakota and then went to Oklahoma when the country was first opened to settlement. He remained there for several years and then went to Washington where he as since remained as an attache of the department of justice. Seven or eight years ago he was confirmed as a member of the Episcopal church. He was the fifth of thirteen children, five of whom have preceded him into the future. He married Miss Mamie Taylor in Frederick, Dakota, in 1884. Two sons were born of the union.
