Ransom Beauregard Holland, a member of the Holland family that came to Cowley county in 1870 and lived in Pleasant Valley township for many years, died Sunday afternoon at his home in Chandler, Ok. The body will be brought to Hackney for burial and funeral services will be held at the Hackney church tomorrow forenoon. Death was death to heart trouble aggravated by a fall a few weeks ago in which Mr. Holland broke a rib and suffered internal injuries. Rance Holland, as he was known to nearly all residents of Cowley county thirty years ago, was born in Wayne county, North Carolina, in 1861. He came to Cowley county when a boy of nine with his family which at that time consisted of thirteen children, eight boys and five girls. He worked on the Holland farm as a youth and young man and was educated at the Holland school. In 1891 he married Miss Zora Muret, a daughter of George P. Muret, and moved to Oklahoma. He became a resident of Chandler and started a grocery store which he conducted until a short time before his death. Five children were born to the union. The oldest, Weaver,is now an ensign in the U.S. Navy being assigned as assistant engineer, being a graduate of the Oklahoma University and the Westinghouse Training School at Pittsburgh, Pa. Loyal, another son, and Clara Barton, a daughter, are students in the Oklahoma University and the two younger children are at home. The death of Rance leaves but five of the Holland children surviving, another brother, Arthur having died only three months ago in Hobart, OK. The surviving members of the family are: Mrs. Mattie Russell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Dr. A.W. Holland, Drumright, Ok.; Miss Edith Holland, Hot Springs, Ark., and W. Bob Holland, St. Louis, Mo. All the surviving brothers and sisters will attend the funeral except Mrs. Russell. Miss Edith Holland came from Hot Springs, where she is the supervising principal of the primary department of the public schools, and W. Bob Holland came from St. Louis where he is connected with the editorial department of the Globe-Democrat.
