Read More	Per the Denison Review, December 2, 1892, "DEATH OF MISS CLARA RUMSEY-While not unexpected, the death of Miss Clara Rumsey on Friday, December 2, 1892, created a deep impression on this community. Her death was caused by consumption, which is hereditary in her father's family. Miss Rumsey was born at Dunlap, Feb. 24, 1872, and was thus but twenty years of age. She came with her parents to Denison when three years old, and this city has been her home ever since. Clara was from her youth remarkably handsome and refined in appearance. Possessed of a bright mind and winning wsys she was a very general favorite. She graduated with honors from the Denison high school in 1888, and for a while attended Cornell College at Mr. Vernon. Some two years ago her health began to fail. Last winter was spent with her mother, Mrs. S.B. Greek, at Pasadena, CAL. She returned greatly improved, but with the coming of winter here strength wasted away. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday at 2:30 P.M. The sermon was preached by Rev. J.B. Harris. As the deceased was universally beloved, and much sympathy was felt for Mrs. Greek, her mother, there was a very large attendance at the service. Many were the floral offerings laid on the white casket by loving hands. A pure life has departed from our midst. The glorious Christian assurance of a resurrection and a life in which there is no sickness and pain comes to cheer the sorrowing mother and all others who lose their loved ones. It is indeed a blessed hope. The following notice of the death of Miss Rumsey, and the resolution passed by her society were kindly sent us by Miss Gertie Gulick; 'On Friday, as the first grey heralds of the coming morning were slowly streaking the sable heavens, the cords that bound the soul of Miss Clara Rumsey to its sacred tenement of clay were severed and the kind angles bore it upward and way from her dear mother, who for long months had been the lone watcher by her darling's bedside; the watch was ended. The life whose sun of youth had not reached the meridian went calmly to sleep by the wayside. The news of Miss Rumsey's death, though expected, saddens the hearts of all the Alethean girls and her many other friends. And though she has been absent for two years, the drifting sands of forgetfulness have not erased her beautiful character from the memory of all who knew her at Cornell.' The funeral will take place at her home in Denison, IA., Dec. 4. RESOLUTION, Whereas, It has pleased our Heavenly Father to removed from earth one of its fairest flowers, our dear sister, Clara M. Rumsey, whose death we deeply mourn, be it. Resolved, That we, the Alethean Literary Society, extend to the grief stricken mother of our sister, our deepest sympathy and commend her to the all sufficient consolations of the One who had said, "I will not leave you comfortless" and be it further Resolved, that a copy of these resolutions be sent the mother, be printed in the Breeze, Cornelian and Denison Review; and that they be spread upon the society minutes.
