Description	:	Earling - Clarence Aloyious Stolz, 72. Clarence Aloyious Stolz, son of John and Martha Thraen Stolz, was born Aug 9, 1908, on a Harrison county farm near Portsmouth. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Woodbine, and received his First Communion and confirmation at St. Mary’s church in Panama. Clarence Aloyious Stolz, son of John and Martha Thraen Stolz, was born Aug 9, 1908, on a Harrison county farm near Portsmouth. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Woodbine, and received his First Communion and confirmation at St. Mary’s church in Panama. He began his schooling at the country school near Woodbine then attended St. Mary’s school in Panama, completing his education at the Defiance public school. He then worked for his father for a few years until becoming employed as a laborer for various farmers in the area. On Jan 18, 1939, he married Helen Marie Kohl in St. Joseph’s church in Earling. Three children were born to this union. After their marriage, they farmed south of Earling until 1970, when they retired and moved into Earling. On Jan 18, 1980, they were privileged to celebrate their 41st wedding anniversary. After Mrs. Stolz’s death on May 7, 1980, Clarence continued to make his home in Earling. Mr. Stolz was a member of St. Joseph’s church, the Holy Name Society of Earling as well as an active participant in the Cursillo and TEC Communities. He died at the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling on Tuesday, March 31, 1981, at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 22 days. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, John. Survivors include a son, John of Omaha; two daughters, Ella Stolz of Council Bluffs, and Barbara (Mrs. James) Calandro of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren; two son-in-law, Don Naimoli of Council Bluffs; and James Calandro of West Des Moines; two brothers, Henry of Prairie City and Edwin of Avoca; three sisters, Martha (Mrs Carl) Assmann of Dow City; Pauline (Mrs. Elmer) Swenson of Kirkman and Irene (Mrs. Joe) Kenkel of Denison; and a half sister, Donna Stolz; nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Joseph’s church on Saturday, April 4, 1981 with Rev Jon Kautzky as celebrant. Burial was in St. Joseph’s cemetery with Gary Swenson, Randy Swenson, Jerry Swanson, Donald Stolz, Bob Stolz and Richard Swanson serving as pallbearers. Pauley Funeral Home of Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
