Clarence Nicholas Schott was born January 26, 1921, in Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of William and Mary (Glieden) Schott. Clarence attended country school and then he attended Sacred Heart High School in Pocahontas. He served in the US Naval Air Corps during WWII as a radio operator, navigator and machine gunner. Schott - age 95, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Arlington Place in Pocahontas, Iowa. Clarence Nicholas Schott was born January 26, 1921, in Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of William and Mary (Glieden) Schott. Clarence attended country school and then he attended Sacred Heart High School in Pocahontas. He served in the US Naval Air Corps during WWII as a radio operator, navigator and machine gunner. He was stationed in Florida, and Cuba, patrolling the East Coast down to Central America in a Martin twin engine sea plane. In the latter part of the war he was stationed in Hawaii in a Scout Bomber. At the age of 25, while stationed in Banana River, FL, Clarence’s plane caught fire during flight, but landed safely. He often said that from that day on, every day was a gift. On August 25, 1947 Clarence married Mary Bunda in Pocahontas, Iowa. The couple settled on the Schott family farm near Pocahontas, where they farmed and raised their family. After 60 years, they moved to Arlington Place in Pocahontas. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2012. Clarence loved farming. He experienced it from the days of farming with horses to the modern equipment of the present. Clarence also enjoyed reading and in later years, he loved listening to books on tape. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. Clarence was a 70-year member of the American Legion and a life long member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. Survivors include his children, Dodie Schott of Kearney, MO, Arlene (Ray) DeWall, Patti (Marv) Allen and John (Jane) Schott all of Pocahontas; family friend Jo Muenchow of Kearney, MO; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Eleanor Hohensee of Pocahontas; brothers, Joe Schott of Sheldon, Fritz Schott of LaCrosse, WI and sister-in-law Lois Schott of Pocahontas. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, grandson Aaron Allen, brothers, Elmer, Lucian, Walt, Bill and Leo Schott, sisters Laura Bunda and Elmira Struthers. Funeral Thursday March 17, 2016, 10:30 A.M. at Resurrection Catholic Church, Pocahontas, Iowa Visitation Wednesday March 16, 2016, 4-7 P.M. at Powers Funeral Home, Pocahontas, Iowa
