Description	:	Shorty lived a full and happy life. He made friends easily and kept them long. He enjoyed visiting other people and sharing life's experiences. He was entertaining and easy to talk too. As a car salesman I'm sure he excelled simply because there would have been no BS, just the facts and a story or two and a smile. Presto! He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and owned several including a 42 Knucklehead 61. What the collectors wouldn't give for that bike today. There is a picture of Shorty on the 42/61, I'll post it when I find it. Later He would ride with one Pet Chihuahua in each saddle bag. He did lament when I knew him, how motorcycles had evolved. He was particularly keen on the Gold Wing 1800. I heard him remark, "guys ride those Honda's back and forth across the country. This is true and they ride effortlessly. Shorty didn't miss much in his long life. I loved his storys about the depression years, Life was tough and many times he ate oatmeal 3 times a day. I heard from D F Wallace how Shorty would siphon gas from his tractors to go to town on Saturday. Grandpa said, if he can work that hard for 2 gallons of gas he can have it. It was a different world back them. They worked together to run two farms. They needed each other to get by. Gas for Saturday night is just part of the deal. Later he fought in WW2 and was in the first assault on Okinawa. He was awarded a bronze star for bravery that day. He told me this story with the same matter of fact emphasis as any other story of his experience. He had a job to do and did, enough said. I enjoyed Shorty's stories and his humor. He will be missed by many people, all his friends.
